Not even the Huskies’ best shooting game of the season was enough to overcome Joseph Young’s 32 points, the last two on a driving floater with 23.8 seconds left that gave Oregon a 78-74 victory against the Huskies.
Despite the double-digit loss, the Cougars had a good beginning. The team held 8-3, 17-10 and eventually 31-24 leads, the latter being the score at halftime. But, as has been the case for the Cougars all season, their lead was not foolproof.
The loss was Washington’s (14-13, 6-8) fifth in its last six games and dropped the team further down in the Pac-12 conference standings where it currently sits eighth.
Mike Moser scored 20 points and Joseph Young finished with 18 to lead Oregon (17-8, 5-8) which shot 57 percent from the field for the contest.
Wilcox made three clutch baskets in the final five minutes to keep Washington in the lead as the Ducks made their rally. The senior finished with 23 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.
