Thunderbirds Notebook: Barzal Sees Added Ice Time, Young Goalie Signed

Barzal, 17, has played in 14 games since returning to the Thunderbirds’ lineup January 23 after missing nearly 11 weeks with a fractured knee cap. After a slow start, Barzal has rounded into the form expected of him with four goals and 14 assists.

Thunderbirds Notebook: Taran Kozun Looking Ahead

Kozun yielded three goals in 15:49 of the first period before being pulled for backup Logan Flodell with Seattle in a 3-0 hole. He was caught out of position on the Royals’ first two goals before being beat by a great pass on the third goal.

T-Birds Notebook: Where One Dream Ends, Another Begins

In 13 games with the Hawks, Flodell was 8-4 with a .901 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average. Mumaugh finished his hockey career with a 18-21-4-4 record over three seasons with Seattle. He had a career save percentage of .887 and 3.67 goals against average.

T-Birds Squander Scoring Chances, Fall To Prince George

In their last three losses, Seattle (4-5-0-1) has surrendered 117 shots on goal, a byproduct of its issues on defense. With Ethan Bear hurt, Evan Wardley suspended and Shea Theodore still with the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, the T-Birds are currently relying on younger players.

Young Goaltender Shines In First Action

Rookie Logan Flodell made 37 saves on 40 shots in his first appearance and start of the 2014 season in a 3-1 loss to Prince George Friday night. The 17-year-old made the Thunderbirds roster as one of three goalies after a strong camp.

Barzal, Kolesar Among Five T-Birds Named To U-17 Rosters

Forwards Mathew Barzal and Keegan Kolesar join defenseman Ethan Bear, all currently on the T-Birds roster, as selections for the week-long tournament held in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia from December 29-January 4th, 2014.
