NTSB: Systematic Errors Caused I-5 Bridge Collapse

The National Transportation Safety Board says that insufficient route planning, a distracted pilot driver and an inadequate permitting process by the state of Washington all played a part in the Interstate 5 bridge collapse north of Seattle last year.

NTSB: Driver Felt ‘Crowded’ Before Bridge Collapse

The driver of an oversize load that triggered an Interstate 5 bridge collapse told investigators that he felt “crowded” by a passing vehicle and moved closer to the side of the bridge that had less clearance, according to a preliminary federal report released Tuesday.

NTSB Clears I-5 Skagit River Bridge Accident Scene

Portions of a temporary Interstate 5 bridge could extend over the Skagit River in a day or two and the entire 160-foot gap could be filled next week, reopening freeway lanes that have been detoured since the May 23 bridge collapse, the Washington Department of Transportation said.
