Chris Archer made his share of history on Sunday, becoming the first pitcher in more than 100 years to reach double-digits in strikeouts without a walk in three straight starts, leading the Rays over the Mariners 3-1 Sunday.
The Mariners, who have scored just 13 runs during their current six-game losing streak, were 1-of-11 with runners in scoring position and 7-of-40 during the losing streak. They are last in the league in hitting at .236 and have just a .219 average with runners in scoring position. They have scored 193 runs, third fewest in the majors.
Ramirez has made 35 starts over the past three seasons for Seattle. Last season he was 1-6 with a 5.26 ERA in 17 appearances — 14 starts — with the Mariners.
