Skiiers and boarders should be happy. Forecasters say frontal systems moving through Washington Wednesday and Thursday will bring heavy snow to the Cascades.
Powder Magazine senior editor John Stifter, who witnessed the slide that killed three of his skiing companions Sunday, said one person survived by bear-hugging a tree and holding on as the snow barreled over him. “It’s an absolute horror story,” Stifter said Monday.
Well-equipped and familiar with the terrain, about a dozen expert skiers were making their way through a foot-and-a half of fresh snow when an avalanche hit them in an out-of-bounds area near Stevens Pass ski resort.
