Skiiers and boarders should be happy. Forecasters say frontal systems moving through Washington Wednesday and Thursday will bring heavy snow to the Cascades.
A storm moving through the Northwest has raised the chance of rivers flooding in Western Washington and avalanche danger in the Cascades.
Well-equipped and familiar with the terrain, about a dozen expert skiers were making their way through a foot-and-a half of fresh snow when an avalanche hit them in an out-of-bounds area near Stevens Pass ski resort.

Snowfall in the mountains of Western Washington means an early start to ski and snowboard season! Crystal Mountain and Mount Baker have planned openings on Friday, November 18. Snoqualmie, Stevens and Mission Ridge plan to open Saturday, November 19.
