A rare tornado damaged industrial buildings south of Seattle as an early winter storm dumped record amounts of rain and knocked out power for thousands in the Pacific Northwest.
It was indeed a tornado that damaged several buildings Thursday in the community of McMinnville, southwest of Portland, the National Weather Service has confirmed. Nobody was hurt, but three commercial buildings, all of them used for storage, were damaged.
Structural engineers from St. Louis and Seattle spent Monday assessing damage to Boeing’s 97 buildings. Spokeswoman Yvonne Johnson-Jones said there was damage to at least seven of them, including three or four office buildings and a couple hangars, and work was suspended until Wednesday.
