Kozun extended the T-Birds’ winning streak to four games with 38 saves to earn his third shutout. Mathew Barzal had a goal and an assist to lead Seattle’s offense.
In spite of 38 shots on goal, Seattle could not put a puck past Vancouver (7-8) goaltender Cody Porter in a 1-0 loss to a Giants squad that entered with a four-game losing streak. Vancouver’s Alec Baer scored the decisive goal, beating Taran Kozun at 12:46 of the third period.
It was a game the Thunderbirds absolutely had to have after a 3-game losing skid left their grip on the No. 4 seed tenuous. Shea Theodore finished with three assists, Danny Mumaugh had 32 saves in his first start in eight games and Alexander Delnov tallied his 28th goal of the season to lift the T-Birds.
In their shootout loss to Tri-City on Friday, the Thunderbirds finished 0-for-5 on the power play. Against the Giants, Saturday, the team wasted no time getting that fixed, scoring on its first two chances to take a 3-1 lead after the first period.
Seattle goalie Danny Mumaugh stopped 31 shots to get the shutout and his first win of the year.
