Canada’s Michael Saunders, of the Mariners, hit a two-run homer off starter Derek Holland and was chosen the Group D MVP, going 8 for 11 in the tournament with seven RBIs.

Saunders Helps Canada Beat Brewers

Mariners outfielder Michael Saunders homered and the Twins’ Justin Morneau had an RBI walk as Team Canada began preparations for the WBC with a 7-4 exhibition win over the Milwaukee Brewers Tuesday. Canada is looking to advance beyond the first round for the first time after early exits in 2006 and 2009.

Saunders, Perez, Liddi Look Forward To WBC

Before getting too worked up over the Seattle Mariners’ preseason preparations, outfielder Michael Saunders, pitcher Oliver Perez and infielder Alex Liddi are looking forward to the World Baseball Classic. Saunders will play for Canada, Perez for Mexico and Liddi for Italy, with all three nations competing in Group D of the opening round in Arizona from March 7-10.
