The Seattle area is filled with many options for staying fit while visiting. Whether it is running or group exercise, there is a club that offers day or class drop-in opportunities. These indoor facilities are good in the unpredictable Seattle winter weather.

The Ballard Health Club is located in the community of Ballard, just north of downtown Seattle. It is a family-owned club with excellent customer service. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and certified. The facility offers classes, cardio floor, free weights, circuit training, yoga and locker rooms. The specialized classes have fun names, such as ablab (abdominal and back), fiestaerobics (Latin music aerobics), butt & gut (abdominal, glutes and legs) and h.i.i.t. challenge (high-intensity interval training). The class schedule is listed on the website and classes run throughout the day. In addition, the club offers personal trainers. Day fees are reasonable.

There are three Community Fitness locations in the Ravena area. Two are located on Roosevelt and the third is on 65th Street. The group fitness classes are open to drop-in students. The main programs offered are Zumba, Body Pump and Barre. Community Fitness instructors are friendly and very welcoming to newcomers. The studio on 65th is the Flow Studio where classes focus on finding balance, alignment and breathing. The Play Studio focuses on exploring dance, expression and movement and the Power Studio focuses on building a “rock-solid” foundation. Class schedules are located on the website and drop-in class fees are reasonable.

Zum Fitness is located in downtown Seattle and is a upper-end fitness establishment. This is a spa and fitness club rolled into one. It is perfect for working out and then receiving a message. The club offers group exercise classes in Box Fit, Cycling, ZUM XT, Survivor, yoga, Pilates, Hard Core and many other styles. The classes run throughout the day, every day of the week. In addition, the club offers corporate team-building classes. For one-on-one work, the club offers personal trainers. There is a daily fee for non-members.

The YMCA has several locations in the greater Seattle area. The location listed here is in downtown Seattle on the west side of I-5. The facility offers numerous group exercise classes, such as yoga, cycling, functional strength, core strength, Pilates, Zumba and step-aerobics. In addition to group exercise classes, the YMCA offers free weights, cardiovascular (aerobic), circuit training, swimming pool and racquetball/handball/squash courts.

The Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion is located north of Seattle on the east side of I-5. This community recreation center is home to a swimming pool, cardio room (aerobic), racquetball courts, sauna, whirlpool and outdoor tennis courts. The cardio room offers a variety of workout options, such as treadmill, stairmaster, rowing machine and dumbbells. The pool facility offers lap swimming, water aerobics and water exercise classes. The running track is in the fields north of the pavilion.
