Thanksgiving is a difficult time of year for those in need. This year, many Puget Sound locations are offering incentives for non-perishable items headed for local food banks. Help make someone’s holidays a little brighter this year. Here are some of our favorite food drives.

Nominated for Best Blues Event many times by the Washington Blues Society members, it is a great chance to be generous and enjoy a great show! Start the season of giving and caring off right at the 10th Annual Jam for Cans! Many of the Northwest’s most talented musicians will help fight the cause for hunger. Admission is 10 cans or $10.00 at the door or more if you wish. Cans and proceeds benefit Northwest Harvest.

There’s an easy way to help families in need this season… at Fred Meyer. Donate unwrapped toys to the Salvation Army or non-perishable food to the Food Lifeline. Look for the collection barrels at your nearest Fred Meyer. What’s on your list today?

Celebrate the true spirit of Thanksgiving and help a family in need at the Safeway in Downtown Bellevue. Since 2008, the Families Helping Families food drive has fed over 1,700 families. You can donate items of the Families Helping Local Families list, an entire meal ($30), A turkey and pie card, or cash.

PCC is the sponsor of this year’s Green Lake Gobble 5K and Mashed Potato Much Off eating contest. You can find out more information about the run, or just come with some canned food and cheer at the finish line. The Children’s Museum, Seattle is hosting a benefit for the Queen Anne Helpline. The Helpline serves the community and offers non-perishable food items to those in need. The Museum is collecting food items to re-stock their shelves. As a thank you for your donation, theMuseum is offering one free admission for each child who brings at least 2 non-perishable food items during the Food for our Friends Event. Donate 2 non-perishable items and receive 1 free admission for a child 12 months to 10 years old. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult. This offer may not be combined with other coupons or offers. Limit of 3 free admissions per group.
