This yearly FREE event brings neighbors, friends, families and Seattle together to light up the night in one of the darkest months of the year in a celebration of light and the many holidays of December. Volunteer music groups, and people setting up and taking down the candles and helping with the event wanted!

KidsQuest Children’s Museum invites families to work together to create a unique gingerbread house at the beautiful Hilton Hotel Bellevue. All the materials are there for you, including a candy buffet and lots of frosting…PLUS they clean up the mess! All you need is your imagination to enjoy the house of your dreams throughout the season. Snacks and cider are provided by Hilton Hotel Bellevue. $35/member family, $40/non-member family. Online pre-registration required and space is limited. All ages welcome.

Barnes and Noble’s Polar Express Party

This national, free Barnes and Noble storytime event includes hot chocolate, cookies and lots of fun for kids and parents. From Woodinville to Olympia, the classic story of a child’s train ride to the North Pole will enchant your child this holiday season. Kids are encouraged to come dressed in their pajamas, just like the children aboard the Polar Express. The story, written by Chris Van Allsburg, has been a favorite of youngsters for over 25 years. Most recently, Warner Brothers made it into an animated movie by the same name. Check HERE for a participating Barnes and Noble bookstore near you.

Christmas Rush Fun Run 5K and 10K

Both the 10K and 5K are certified and chip timed by BuDu Racing. Highlights include live holiday music performed by the Kentwood High School band, random prizes and awards for the top five finishers in each age group. All ages welcome.

Help celebrate birthdays of the zoo’s four polar bears! See the bears receive special toys and treats and learn about their fascinating lives from their keepers. Two of the bears, Glacier and Blizzard, were found as orphans in the Arctic and will be 16 years old in December. The other two bears, Boris and Kenny, were rescued from a Mexican circus and will turn 26 and 27.

Make a Gingerbread House with American Girl

Saturday, December 10 is the Lucia Bal Celebration! Dress formally and come to the most festive night of the year Arrive at 6:00pm for an hour of delicious glögg and cocktails. The Lucia pageant begins at 7:00pm with music and the spirit of a Swedish Christmas. A full julbord with all the Julmiddag fixings will be served. $60/members and $70/guests. On Sunday, December 11 at 3:00pm it’s the kid-friendly Lucia Festival. Students studying Swedish at the UW will combine with the Swedish Women’s Chorus, the Svea Male Chorus and the Swedish Cultural Center’s best bakers to help you feel the Lucia love! After the concert, dancing around the tree. $5/adults, $3/ages 12 and younger.
