In pauses between the rain, Seattle’s skateboarding scene thrives. Finding the gear to fit the weather and your needs, however, can prove a little challenging. Check out these great local skate shops, run by boarders like you, before you venture out into the great gray city.

The 35th North Skateboard Shop caters to both male and female boarders with a wide variety of clothing, skateboards, shoes, equipment and media. It features even limited-edition skate lines and brands, as well as rare and collectable items, including skateboard collectors’ dunks. The store is known locally for its impeccable customer service and return clientele.

This indoor skate park is owned and operated by skaters. Its shop opened in 2003, after the owner recognized a need for an indoor park in the cold, wet Seattle area. Skaters younger than 18 need a parent’s signature. The park offers camps for ages 7 to 14 during the summer and during school breaks.

Evo is an all-around skateboard shop with equipment, clothing and accessories for every skateboarder. It offers complete skateboards, longboard packages, skateboard decks and wheels, carrying Alien Workshop, Chocolate, Creature, Girl, Habitat and Santa Cruz boards. For longboards, it carries Arbor, Gold Coast, Never Summer and Santa Cruz.

Wave Hounds Surf Shop caters to both skateboarders and surfers. The shop carries Kahuna longboards, Santa Cruz skateboards and Globe skateboards. Kahuna longboards are available in-store only. Santa Cruz skateboards are available in seven styles starting at $124. Globe Skateboards are available in five models starting at $110.

This Seattle shop carries skateboards, gloves, helmets, wheels, bearings and just about anything any skateboarder could need. Its staff is knowledgeable of the sport, and how to help customers build boards, which staffers then assemble for free. The store offers movies and books on skateboarding as well. Sno Con’s second location on Main Street in Bellevue guarantees great gear no matter where you need it.
