The 5th Avenue Theatre’s next Spotlight Night will take you behind the scenes of the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis. On Monday, August 27 at 7:00pm, you’ll hear how this musical got its start at The 5th and how it made it big on Broadway. The evening will include musical selections from the show performed by several special guests!

Memphis is one of 13 musicals that have been developed and produced by The 5th Avenue over the past ten years. Five have moved on to Broadway premieres, earning a combined 14 Tony Awards. Now on its first national tour, the Broadway smash comes home to The 5th Avenue Theatre, where the show had its pre-Broadway tryout in 2009 (in collaboration with the La Jolla Playhouse).
The premise? A white radio DJ wants to change the world and a black club singer is ready for her big break in the 1950s, before the Civil Rights Movement.
