The Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma has one talented otter. Nellie, one of the otters at the zoo, has learned through “enrichment” exercises, how to stack cups! This video was released by Point Defiance on August 1, and according to the The News Tribune, was even on The Today Show this morning.
As of August 28, over 1.3 million views have hit YouTube. See Nellie in action HERE:
Coming up on Sunday, September 23, it’s Sea Otter Awareness Day at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium! Come see the otters enjoy their special enrichments (including fresh oysters to open) at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 2:30pm.
The sea otters will also receive frozen treat otter pops and giant ice treat toys to play with!
And you’ll be able to meet one of Nellie’s friends, Homer, a female sea otter who is one of two remaining Exxon Valdez survivors in US zoos!
