Ensure that even children who enter foster care during the holiday season wake up to a gift from Santa under the tree. Whether it’s a new baby doll, a Lego set, art supplies, sporting goods, or even a gift card, these gifts can mean the world to a foster child who enters care with just the clothes on their back. Remind readers to ‘Be A Secret Santa’ this season by dropping off a new, unwrapped toy for children of all ages at any Sleep Country store, and help bring joy to a local foster child this winter. Community members can also snap a photo as they donate and enter the Sleep Country Be A Secret Santa Photo Contest on Facebook. The grand prize is a new Kindle Fire HD! (more details at

Donations of new unwrapped gifts like board games, electronics, books, or musical instruments can be made at any Sleep Country store. For more information on the location of the nearest store, please visit the Sleep Country store locator at or call 888.88.SLEEP. The store hours are M-F 10:00am to 9:00pm, Saturday, 10:00am to 8:00pm, and Sunday, 10:00am to 7:00pm. Donations will be distributed among Sleep Country’s 24 partner foster care organizations.

The Bellevue Fire Department is hosting its annual food and toy drive. Donations will be accepted at all Bellevue fire stations and at Bellevue City Hall. New, unwrapped toys collected for infants, youth and teens will be distributed at the Youth Holiday Party on December 11 at Crossroads Community Center. Nothing beats the look on kids’ faces when they find festively wrapped packages under a twinkling tree. But Santa needs all the help he can get to make sure every child experiences that special moment. That’s why, for the ninth year, Bartells is partnering with the Salvation Army for the “Toy ‘n’ Joy” Giving Tree Drive. New and unwrapped toys will be distributed to thousands of underprivileged kids throughout the Puget Sound. Drop off new, unwrapped toys appropriate for children up to 14 years old at your neighborhood Bartells. To fill a child’s Christmas with the holiday spirit, PODS of Seattle a moving and storage company, has teamed up with Walgreens and the Starlight Children’s Foundation to support the “Starlight Toy Drive” in Washington. The drive will run through December 31. During the toy drive, PODS of Seattle will donate a wealth of PODS® containers to collect toy and book items and play a big role by serving as the main collection point at participating Walgreens stores. The public is encouraged to drop off donations at any of the PODS® containers onsite at participating Walgreens locations in Shoreline, Lynnwood, Bellevue, Seattle, Renton, Tacoma and University Place. PODS will deliver the donated toys and books to the local Starlight Children’s Foundation. The items will be distributed to Starlight families and to local hospitals that are a part of the Starlight network of medical facilities.
