(1090 The Fan) – The Mariners’ 2012 first round draft pick catcher Mike Zunino leads a list of 18 new players invited to Peoria, Arizona this spring for the team’s 2013 Cactus League season.

Here are some of the others:

-Futures Game participant right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker
-2012 Mariners Minor League Player of the Year infielder Stefen Romero
-2012 Mariners Heart and Soul Award winner infielder Brad Miller
-Arizona Fall League participants infielder Nick Franklin, left-handed pitcher James Paxton, right-handed pitcher Carson Smith and right-handed pitcher Logan Bawcom.

The Mariners farm system led all teams with a minor league record 496 wins in 2012, and was recently ranked as the second-best minor league system in baseball by Baseball America writer Jim Callis.

The majority of the invites (15) were members of the Mariners organization last season; 11 are homegrown products having been originally drafted or signed by Seattle.

Pitchers and catchers will report to spring training in Peoria, AZ on Feb. 12 (physicals) and hold its first workout Feb. 13. Position players are scheduled to report for physicals Feb. 15 and the first full-squad workout will be held Feb. 16.
