(CBS Seattle) — A southern Washington man died after accidentally shooting himself in the face Sunday morning.

According to KGW, 26-year-old Benjamin White was looking for his lost dog when he slipped and fell on rocks in a rural area near the town of Yacolt, north of Portland.

White’s girlfriend called police. By the time Clark County Sheriff’s deputies arrived, White was dead. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed he was carrying a gun.

The Volcano Rescue Team was brought in to help recover the body because of the difficulty of the terrain.
