(1090 The Fan) — Sam Dower Jr. scored 25 points to lead Gonzaga to a 86-67 victory over West Coast Conference rival Loyola Marymount, Saturday night.
The 6-foot-9 senior finished 9-for-14 from the field and grabbed 15 rebounds to pace the Zags. Kevin Pangos added 17 points and Gary Bell Jr. had 15 points for Gonzaga (23-4, 13-1) which maintained a 3-game WCC lead on Saint Mary’s.
Anthony Ireland scored 23 points to lead Loyola Marymount (11-16, 3-12) which lost for the 12th time in its last 13 games. Evan Payne and Gabe Levin each chipped in 17 points for the Lions.
The Bulldogs took control of this one thanks to a first half in which the team shot 54.8 percent. That shooting performance resulted in a 45-31 halftime lead. The Zags cruised from there, the Lions never coming closer than within eight points.
Gonzaga out-rebounded Loyola Marymount 40-25 and finished at 47 percent from the field. The Zags now close out their WCC slate with four straight road games beginning with BYU on Thursday.
