Beaven Called Up, Set To Start Tuesday’s Game

(1090 The Fan) — Blake Beaven will be heading up to the big league on Tuesday to start for the Mariners in Arlington, Texas.

Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik recalled the right-handed pitcher from Triple-A Tacoma Tuesday to fill in one of the holes in Seattle’s starting rotation. Right now the Mariners are down Taijuan Walker, Hisashi Iwakuma and James Paxton due to various injuries.

To make room on the active 25-man roster, Lucas Luetge was optioned to the Tacoma Rainiers post-game last night.

Beavan, 25, will wear #49 when he takes the mound tonight for his 2014 debut.

In two starts with the Rainiers, Beavan went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA (3 ER, 13.0 IP). He recorded a 7-inning complete game in the Rainiers season opener April 4 vs. Albuquerque (7.0,4,1,1,2,6,HR). He recorded a no-decision in his last start April 9 vs. El Paso, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs in 6.0 innings.
