PEORIA, Ariz. (1090 The Fan) — The bats are always a little ahead of the arms during the beginning of spring training, and the Seattle Mariners’ 9-4 victory over the San Diego Padres only added to that notion.
Robinson Canó, Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager and Logan Morrison combined to go 8-for-12 with a double, home run and three RBI to put the Mariners at 2-0 in Cactus League play.
In the bottom of the third, Cruz hit a towering home run to left field to put Seattle up 3-1. Patrick Kivlehan continued his early strong showing in camp, hitting a three-run home run in the eighth inning. In two games he is 3-for-5 (.600) with one home run and 3 RBI.
Starting pitcher Roenis Elias scattered three hits in 2.0 scoreless innings and right-hander Justin Germano earned the win allowing 2 hits in 1.1 scoreless innings.
