EDMONDS, Wash. (AP) — A fire has caused more than $250,000 in damage at an Edmonds elementary school. Classes are canceled for Monday at Madrona K-8 school.
Snohomish County fire officials say no one was injured in the Sunday evening fire. Firefighters found black smoke billowing from the building just after 8 p.m. About 40 firefighters from the county, Lynnwood and Shoreline were called in to fight the fire.
Officials say it was extinguished in about 15 minutes and contained in the faculty room. The adjacent school office and hallway had smoke and water damage. Closed doors kept the smoke from entering classrooms.
Fire investigators have determined the fire started in a storage space off the faculty room. They were unable to pinpoint an exact cause, but say there was nothing suspicious about the fire.
