TACOMA, Wash. – Stefen Romero worked a four-pitch bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th inning to catapult the Tacoma Rainiers (39-30) to a 1-0 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies (31-37) on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.
Tacoma starting pitcher Donn Roach worked his longest outing of the season, holding Fresno scoreless on four hits over 8.0 innings of work – he issued no walks and struck out four.
The Rainiers broke through in the bottom of the 12th inning on a bases loaded walk from Romero to score Daniel Robertson, propelling Tacoma to the 1-0 victory.
Blake Parker, David Rollins, and Casey Coleman combined to hold Fresno scoreless on three hits over the final 4.0 frames. The trio of relievers notched eight total strikeouts, while issuing one walk.
The Rainiers look for the series win over the Grizzlies in the final game of the four-game series, Monday, June 20 at 6:05 p.m. PT. Right-hander Cody Martin (5-4, 5.27) will go for Tacoma, while lefty Tommy Shirley (4-4, 5.46) will take the mound for Fresno.
